IFA2013: LG showcases its smart HOM-BOT square in the most creative fashion.

IFA2013: LG showcases its smart HOM-BOT square in the most creative fashion.

The Ultimate in Consumer Convenience, LG’s Latest HOM-BOT SQUARE
Is Equipped with Enhanced Smart Features that Offer Greater Control

LG Electronics (LG) will showcase its latest square robotic vacuum cleaner, the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

The Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE offers a significant boost in cleaning performance, thanks largely to LG’s impressive Corner Master. Furthermore, the new robotic vacuum cleaner is also equipped with LG’s innovative smart technologies — Smart Control, Cleaning History, Smart Diagnosis™ and Software Update —allowing the userto remotely control the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE with a smartphone.

“Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE makes cleaning hard-to-reach places effortless because it was designed to recognize that corners in homes are sharp angles, not curved,” said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “It made perfect sense to our engineers that a vacuum should take this into account. We also recognized that being able to control and monitor a robotic vacuum cleaner from a smartphone would be tremendously convenient.”

At this year’s IFA, LG’s robotic vacuum cleaners will demonstrate their incredible maneuverability with a perfectly choreographed routine. The entertaining display of skill will be performed at select times throughout this year’s exhibition.

Working Quietly but Thoroughly
LG’s Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE cleans effectively and efficiently thanks to Corner Master, which is comprised of two long brushes, corner detecting sensors and the cleaner’s unique shape. With its angular form and redesigned brushes that are 1.5cm longer than on the previous HOM-BOT, the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE can remove dust and dirt from the tightest of corners. The corner detecting sensors enable the smart cleaner to know its exact location in the home and directs it to turn when it has reached the edge of a room.

While robotic cleaners typically employ a single camera, the advanced HOM-BOT SQUARE uses two improved Dual Eye 2.0™ cameras for smarter, faster and more efficient cleaning performance. Taking several images per second, the upper and lower cameras scan ceilings, walls and floors, even in the dark. This information is then analyzed by the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE to generate a smart map. Simultaneously, multiple sensors detect obstacles within a 180 degree field and remembers their locations for collision-free operation. The Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE also features a Learning Function which enables it to recognize areas it has cleaned previously. This helps it to remember the positioning of objects and to sense when an area is already clean, minimizing cleaning time and energy.

The extremely low noise level of just 60dBA means the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE won’t distract when family members are watching TV, talking on the phone or napping. And at only 89mm tall, this robotic cleaner can maneuver around the home with ease, even under most beds, sofas and other large furniture.

The LG Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE’s large capacity Easy-out Dust Bin makes cleaning more convenient as it requires less frequent emptying. Unlike other robotic vacuums where the dust bin is located on the side, the Easy-out Dust Bin is located on the top of the unit for quick and mess-free removal. The larger, upgraded HEPA 11 filter is capable of separating dust particles from the air more thoroughly and also helps eliminate unpleasant odors in the home. Turbo Mode lets users manually adjust the cleaner to best match the characteristics of the flooring, while Smart Turbo Mode automatically detects the type of flooring and changes the setting for optimal performance.

Smarter Lives with More Control
LG’s latest HOM-BOT SQUARE is also equipped with upgraded smart technology. For example, the Smart Control feature lets customers control the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE with a smartphone, wherever they are in the house. No longer is there a need to manually push the start button or to search all over looking for the remote control.

And LG’s Cleaning History makes it simple for customers to check the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE’s cleaning results. With Map View, it’s possible to see what has been cleaned and what hasn’t, saving time if one needs to operate the Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE again. Moreover, owners can use their smartphones to easily set up cleaning schedules for completely automated operation.

Users will also benefit from a host of other convenient features such as Voice Guidance, which includes over 90 voice alerts. LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ makes troubleshooting much easier, quickly alerting the consumer to any minor issues and suggests possible solutions. What’s more, the improved battery holds a greater charge so owners of the LG Smart HOM-BOT SQUARE can enjoy extended periods of worry-free automated cleaning. The latest LG Smart HOM-BOT also makes it also easy to update the cleaner’s software, or install new software, via a smartphone.

A new Google NEXUS smartphone spotted ?

Google to celebrate,  put up a video of the Android KitKat statue's unveiling at Google HQ (the video has already been yanked) However thanks to phonedog we have the above images.

We can see a man and woman taking photos of the statue on two rectangular devices. The woman is clearly holding a Nexus 4, but the device in the man's hands is clearly not the N4. It appears to be larger and has horizontal Nexus branding, just like the backside of the new Nexus 7. We can also see what appears to be an LG logo at the bottom of the phone's rear.

IFA2013: LG G2 smartphone readied for global rollout.  USA and Germany launchs in September.

LG’s Flagship Smartphone to Launch in the
United States and Germany Starting in September

LG Electronics (LG) will launch its LG G2 flagship smartphone in two of its key markets, the United States and Germany, starting in September.

“The positive market feedback after the initial launch in Korea proved to us that the LG G2’s consumer-oriented innovation does resonate with customers,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The LG G2 was developed as a global device for a global audience, beyond the scope of any smartphone we’ve introduced to date. I’m confident consumers will see the difference.”

Significant hardware features of the LG G2, which was developed based on LG’s in-depth research of consumer lifestyles and behaviors, include an intuitive and highly functional Rear Key, edge-to-edge 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with minimal bezel and long-lasting 3,000mAh battery. LG G2 will be the first smartphone launching worldwide that incorporates the industry-leading Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 Processor.

Equipped with a 13MP Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), the LG G2 is able to capture clear images even when in motion or in dim lighting. With the ability to take 1080p videos at 60fps, it has set a high bar for other smartphones. In addition, LG G2 offers 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback that reproduces studio-like quality sound, far superior to a CD.

Backed by powerful hardware features, the LG G2 comes with a number of compelling user experience (UX) features that provide the most practical value such as Answer Me, Plug & Pop, QuickRemote and Guest Mode.

  • Answer Me automatically answers the call after lowering the ringtone when the phone is raised to one’s ear.
  • Plug & Pop automatically recommends options that are most likely to be used when a headset or USB cable is detected.
  • QuickRemote gives the LG G2 the ability to remotely control all IR devices including TV, Home Thearter, Air Conditioner, Stereo etc. as well as learn from conventional remotes and can be customized to operate multiple devices with flexible layouts and keys.
  • Guest Mode protects owner’s privacy by displaying only pre-selected apps when guests access the phone with a secondary unlock pattern.

The LG G2 will be showcased in Hall 11.2 at IFA 2013 starting on September 6 in Berlin, Germany.

For 2014: LG´s smart TV with webOS platform.

For 2014: LG´s smart TV with webOS platform.

At the recent Streaming Media East conference in New York City, Matthew Durgin, director of smart TV content for LG Electronics, was asked if Android would ever find a home on LG sets.

"Not that I can see, to be frank with you, Durgin said. "I think that LG's TV platform has evolved to the point where it's become a very strong differentiator for us in the market. We do have a motion remote which actually has a better experience than most smart TVs out there.

Also, we've recently made an investment in WebOS. We purchased WebOS from HP. Now we have  a development team in Silicon Valley who's developing for the 2014 platform using WebOS."

Q4 2013: LG to mass-produce a new flexible smartphone panel, Samsung working on a similar product.

Posted on 15:32 by Unknown
Francisco De Jesùs, WorldWide Tech and Science.

lg_flexible_oled

LG Display is expected to solidify its leadership in the display market as it will mass-produce a new flexible smartphone panel for major clients from the fourth quarter of this year.

Technicians and researchers at LG say this new development is an effort to meet growing demand for innovative business solutions.

LG spokesman Frank Lee said that his company is looking to meet “the rapid need for display advancements.” Lee stressed upcoming flexible displays, which are bendable and unbreakable, could be the next innovation in display-making technology.

According to the company, LG is investing in flexible displays for mobile devices and new high-tech panels, called organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels, which support ultra high-definition (UHD).

“We have completed the development of our first flexible displays. We will mass produce flexible displays from the fourth quarter of this year,” the company said in a statement to The Korea Times.

Company officials said its E2 line at its display complex in Paju is going to handle the production of flexible displays.

“We will apply a 4.5th generation glass-cutting technology for the OLED flexible displays. Monthly capacity for the line was set as 12,000 sheets,” according to the company statement.

The product comes after LG Chairman Koo Bon-moo issued a challenge to create market-leading products with the potential to revive the company.

LG Electronics, the major stakeholder of LG Display, plans to release its first flexible smartphone later this year.

Officials also hinted at selling the screens to other major mobile producers because the company predicts its flexible displays will become the latest mobile trend.

LG’s competitor, Samsung Display, is reportedly working on a similar product.

Samsung Display is still testing its flexible products and trying to increase production yields. It’s highly unlikely that the soon-to-be-released Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note 3 will have a flexible screen due to manufacturing-related issues.

“Flexible OLEDs will entice handset manufacturers amid growing appetites for a vivid picture, appealing design and thinner displays. The latest development by LG Display should earn a big stake in the growing market,” said Woori Investment Securities analyst Kim Yang-jae.

Kim said LG’s shift toward flexible displays would help the firm beat the industry’s conventional cyclical patterns, making LG one of the few companies that can steadily generate profit regardless of market uncertainties.

Aggressiveness in OLEDs

Flexible OLEDs are just one part of LG’s plan to sweep the global OLED market by increasing its investment in various business projects.

The company, which is the first to mass produce OLED screens and curved OLEDs for televisions, is in the process of developing OLED TV screens that support UHD viewing quality.

To remain competitive, LG works to cut manufacturing costs, achieve lower consumption and advanced viewing quality, said Lim Joo-soo, a manager at its OLED technology strategy division.

“LG Display is developing UHD OLED TV screens. For enhanced brightness, we plan to switch the existing ‘bottom-emission’ tech into ‘top-emission’ tech. The company also has interests in developing materials that can help OLED applications extend their lifespan,” said Lim.

As OLED TVs go mainstream within the next few years, LG is expanding its panel sizes to 65 inches and 77 inches.

According to LG officials, the 65-inch and 77-inch OLED panels will be produced at its M1 pilot line inside the P9 factory in Paju. The M1 line will house more equipment to produce bigger screens, and the M2 line will be mass-produced starting next year.

“This is a strategic decision and it makes sense. With LG’s strong client base and LG Electronics’ television business improving, having an affordable lineup will pay off,” said Woori analyst Kim.

LG Display is involved in a legal battle with Samsung Display over Samsung’s alleged involvement to steal LG’s OLED patents.

Officials at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said they plan to interview Samsung executives and ex-Samsung employees to investigate the claim. The investigation should be finished in the next two months.

LG Technology to Debut in Smart Video Feature in Optimus G Pro.

Posted on 15:46 by Unknown

WorldWide Tech & Science.

LG Technology to Debut in Smart Video Feature in Optimus G Pro

Smart Video, a new multimedia UX feature from LG Electronics (LG), will be unveiled for the first time in the Optimus G Pro. Smart Video takes viewing videos on mobile devices to a whole new level of convenience with eye recognition that eliminates the need to manually control playback during the viewing experience.

Through the implementation of advanced eye recognition technology, Smart Video recognizes the position of the viewer’s eyes and automatically plays or stops the video without any manual input from the user. When the viewer’s eyes are no longer focused on the smartphone display, the front camera recognizes this and immediately pauses the video automatically. Once the user’s gaze returns to the smartphone, the video resumes playback from the point last viewed.

In addition to the Smart Video feature, Optimus G Pro will also be equipped with the world’s first Dual Camerafunction. The Dual Camera  feature is an extension of the Dual Recording feature which debuted on the Optimus G Pro introduced in the Korean market last month. Dual Camera simultaneously captures photographs using both the front and back cameras for a picture-in-picture composition. Users can now be a part of the story, not just observers.

  • “LG is continuously innovating to offer creative ways to offer a user experience that adds value to our customers,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.“It’s the positive UX that will differentiate smartphones in 2013 and beyond, not only cutting-edge hardware specs.”

The Smart Video and Dual Camera features will be introduced as a part of the Value Pack upgrade which will be offered for the Optimus G Pro in the Korean market next month. These features will also be made available for some LG premium smartphones in the future.

Other features in the Value Pack upgrade include:
  •
Magic Remote Pad and Text Keypad via the QRemote function. These new options for QRemotework specifically with LG Smart TVs to enhance convenience when using Optimus G Pro as a remote control for LG Smart TVs.

The Smart LED Lighting outlining the home button of the Optimus G Pro will be upgraded so users can customize the colors to correspond to their favorite contacts. The flashing of the LED in different colors will allow users to identify the source of incoming calls, missed calls, unread messages and emails.

Video Pause/Resume allows the user to stop and start in record mode for one continuous video file.

LG Expands LTE Market with Compelling Lineup Targeting
Diverse Range of Consumer Needs

LG Electronics (LG) reports that it has sold more than 10 million LTE smartphones worldwide, a result of the company’s aggressive push into 4G markets with a combination of the best hardware and advanced 4G LTE technologies.

“Aggressive pushing forward with 4G LTE technology allows LG satisfy the needs of consumers and is a huge factor in our growing success in global LTE smartphone sales,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Mobile Communications Company. “Having established ourselves as a major industry player, we will continue to expand our footprint in the global LTE market with a wider range of differentiated, high quality LTE smartphones.”

LG’s success in expanding its presence in this segment is a result of its early entry into the LTE market and its leadership in LTE research and development. Last year, LG launched popular LTE smartphones in significant markets such as the United States, Japan, Germany and South Korea. In recent weeks, the company began a global rollout of its LG Optimus G in an additional 50 countries.

According to Strategic Analytics, global shipments of LTE smartphones are expected to drastically increase to 275 million units this year. LG is aiming to double its LTE smartphone penetration this year, expanding its presence in both established and emerging markets with a variety of devices. New for 2013, LG’s Optimus F series will deliver a high-speed experience to users transitioning from 3G to 4G LTE networks in countries around the world.
