A new Google NEXUS smartphone spotted ?

Google to celebrate,  put up a video of the Android KitKat statue's unveiling at Google HQ (the video has already been yanked) However thanks to phonedog we have the above images.

We can see a man and woman taking photos of the statue on two rectangular devices. The woman is clearly holding a Nexus 4, but the device in the man's hands is clearly not the N4. It appears to be larger and has horizontal Nexus branding, just like the backside of the new Nexus 7. We can also see what appears to be an LG logo at the bottom of the phone's rear.

Kaspersky alert two very dangerous malware for Android.

Kaspersky alert two very dangerous malware for Android.

The brand of antivirus Kaspersky warns the  boom of  two malicious programs for Android phones very dangerous, Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.ay Free Calls Update, able to seize the telephone and defraud the user.

Free Calls Update is the mix between a fake antivirus and malicious program that blackmails users to hijack the device according to the press release issued today by this company. The application, after executing, obtained administrator privileges and change the settings mobile internet access, locks the device and falsely notifies the user that a malicious program has stolen phone pornographic content.

Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a. has been described by Kaspersky Lab as the "most sophisticated Trojan of all time directed against Android", as it is able to send SMS to premium rate numbers and download and install other malicious programs on the infected phone, and remotely control the phone .

In June 2013, Kaspersky Lab reported a total of 100 386 modifications "malware" mobile, compared to 46 445 modifications, 2012. The note adds that a study of types of "malware" Mobile ranks first all Backdoors, with 32.3 percent of all viruses that infect both phones as computers. His goal is to open a "back door" to access the data stored on the device. Second, with 27.7% of all viruses are the SMS-Trojan, able to send messages without user consent to payment numbers

Press Release:

The capabilities of malware targeting the market-leading Android platform are mimicking those of Trojans that have wrung profits from Windows PC users for years, a new study shows.

With nearly an 80 percent market share, Android's mobile dominance parallels Windows in the PC world, making Google's operating system the "mobile world's equivalent," Kaspersky Lab said in its latest Threat Evolution report, released on Thursday.
The difference between Windows and Android malware is that the latter is evolving much quicker, as criminals borrow from what they learned in targeting PCs since the 1990s.
"The evolution of Android malware has gone much more quickly than the evolution of Windows malware," Roel Schouwenberg, a senior researcher for Kaspersky Lab, told CSOonline.
The peak in Android malware development so far was Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a, which Kaspersky labeled in June as the most sophisticated mobile Trojan to date. Capabilities included opening a backdoor for downloading files, stealing information about the phone and its apps, sending SMS messages to premium rate numbers and spreading malware via Bluetooth.
Obad also reached new heights in its use of encryption and code obfuscation to thwart analysis efforts. In addition, it exploited three previously unknown Android vulnerabilities.
Looking at Obad overall, Kaspersky determined that the Trojan looked more like Windows malware than the typical Android program.
The vast majority of malware written today still targets the much more profitable Windows PC. Nevertheless, the rising number of malicious code samples indicated there is a new generation of developers working hard on breaking into smartphones, which surpassed PCs in shipments in 2011.
"That's where they believe the future is, and the future is there," Schouwenberg said.
In the first half of this year, the number of malicious code samples collected by Kaspersky broke 100,000 for the first time. For all of 2012, the security vendor collected about 76,000 samples.
Nevertheless, infection rates remain very low. For example, in watching Obad over a three-day period in June, Kaspersky found that attempts to install the malware reached only 0.15% of all infection tries by programs.
Part of the reason for the low infection rate overall is a paucity of channels for distributing malware. Most infections today occur through downloading malicious code tucked in an app found in an online app store, other than the official Google Play store.
Most of the users of those third-party stores are in Asia and Russia. In the U.S., smartphone users favor Google Play, which scans for malware.
The infection rate is expected to rise as other distribution methods evolve. Spam carrying links to malicious web sites is often used today and is expected to increase.
In addition, Kaspersky is seeing an increasing number of ads in mobile apps pointing to malicious sites. The vendor has also found a handful of sites with the popular Blackhole exploit kit, modified to download malware when the visitor is using an Android device.
Another troubling trend is the type of mobile malware discovered in the wild. While Trojans that send SMS messages to premium numbers account for the majority of smartphone infections, Kaspersky collects more mobile malware with backdoors for connecting to command and control servers.
"As soon as backdoors and Trojan downloaders come into play, that's when you realize these guys are trying to do something that's a little bit more sophisticated," Schouwenberg said.

2013: Samsung forecasts 500 millions handsets shipped. To hold up as #1 global vendor.

Samsung Electronics aims to ship 500 million handsets in 2013, of which 350 million will be smartphone models, citing an internal forecast estimate by Samsung.

As global smartphone shipments are expected to reach 860-900 million units in 2013 as projected by some market research institutes, Samsung's smartphone shipments will account for over 40% global market share.

Samsung's strategies of launching Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series as flagship models to build brand image and bring favorable influence on sales of its entry-level and mid-range smartphones have proven successful, enabling the Korea-based vendor to hold up the top vendor ranking.

Kibo a mini companion and communications robot to arrive to the ISS in summer 2013.

Tomotaka Takahashi's concept sketch of the robot

A humanoid robot that will be serving as a companion and communications device to Japanese astronauts living in the Japanese Experiment Module “Kibo” on the International Space Station is expected to be completed by February next year. This was the announcement made by Dentsu, Inc. who is part of the joint effort to make the robot.

 The design and specifications are subject to change.
 The coloring, speech and voices of the two robots (one in space and one on Earth) may differ slightly.

The KIBO ROBOT PROJECT, whose aim is to create a humanoid communication robot that will be a companion for the Japanese astronauts who will be living in the Kibo Experiment Module, was jointly submitted by Dentsu, RCAST and ROBO GARAGE in response to the call last year from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (President: Keiji Tachikawa) for a feasibility study proposal on the theme of solving social issues in the experiment module. The proposal was accepted, and the project team has been working for more than a year on developing a robot that can communicate with the astronauts via autonomous actions and remote operations. The robot will also transmit information from the Kibo module to Earth.

In winter 2013 the robot will come face-to-face with Koichi Wakata, the first Japanese commander of the International Space Station, and will take part in the world's first conversation experiment held between a person and a robot in outer space. A second robot with the same specifications will be built to serve as a backup and for demonstration purposes on Earth.
Together with leading engineering companies in Japan, RCAST and ROBO GARAGE have been working on the development of the robot hardware, while Dentsu has been involved in the creation of the conversation content. Toyota Motor Corporation (President: Akio Toyoda; hereinafter "Toyota"), a new addition to the project team, is responsible for the voice recognition and natural language processing functions that comprise the robot's intelligence. Through its participation in this project, Toyota will gather data and collate the accumulated technology that is instrumental to interactive services as well as the development of the "Toyota Partner Robot" that can coexist with people.
The project collaborators hope that the project's activities will disseminate Japan's technological strengths to the international community, and make a contribution to the development of industry and science education.

They walked through the streets, sometimes under anonymity, shared with his people and were seduced by its charms.

Back, they wrote about those experiences in the pages of various editions. Until their experiences became the subject of debate in the Publishers table Traveler, specialized travel magazine National Geographic.

In the end they decided that Quito is one of the world's top 20 destinations to visit in 2013.

The recognition was reflected in a plaque that was given last night at the opening of the XII Sustainable Tourism Exchange. (picture below)

The Mexican Adelina Carpenter, National Geographic representative for Latin America, traveled from the U.S. to the Ecuadorian capital to deliver the award. Councilman Paul Ponce was received on behalf of the council. One of the reasons for the selection, as Carpenter, is that "Quito is an ancient city, but now, with tradition and yet contemporary. (Editors) saw the attention given to the tourist, the condition of the school, etc. ". Traveler's edition highlights a story on the capital. As graphic projects a view of the Plaza de San Francisco. They talk about the architecture of the historic center and attractive. "The editors liked that the city is clean, you can walk with confidence and also cares deeply about sustainability."

Valparaiso, Chile, Marseille in France, Hudson Valley in New York and Granada, and Quito, are among the destinations recommended by Traveler.

The printing of the English edition reaches 715 000 copies, 90% is distributed to U.S. subscribers. Luz Elena Coloma, general manager of the Metropolitan Quito Tourism, believes that "it is a real achievement to Quito visible to some 8.8 million readers, you can read this article on the capital."

For Norman Bock, chief executive of the Association of Metropolitan Hotels Quito, this name "is a good sign for domestic and foreign tourists show interest in learning about this city."

Other awards:

The promotion of  Quito will continue at fairs as Anato (Colombia), International Tourism Fair, ITB Berlin, Cultour, etc.

According to Quito Tourism, this year 129 foreign journalists wrote 147 articles about the city in Spain, Germany, UK and USA.  That meant  savings of $ 6,169,328.

Between January and August this year, Quito received 347,895 visitors, up 6% compared to the same period of 2011. For 2013 is expected to increase. On Monday, 26 tourist establishments, especially hotels and restaurants, Quito received the seal of Qualitas Q (synonymous with quality) for the quality of its services.

LTE: Brazil: Telefonica to launch LTE services in April 2013.

Posted on 19:03 by Unknown

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

LTE: Brazil: Telefonica to launch LTE services in April 2013.

Telefonica’s Brazilian unit plans to launch LTE services in April 2013, according to the CEO of the country’s largest operator.

Outlining the carrier’s aim to upgrade its 3G HSPA network, Paulo Cesar Teixeira told delegates: “We will have 4 cities in April next year and then another 6 nearby cities.” Teixeira said the chosen cities will be those that are scheduled to host World Cup games in 2014.

The LTE service will be branded ‘4G Plus,’ a natural progression from its existing 3G Plus service.

In June this year Telefonica’s Brazilian unit – Vivo – purchased 2x20Mhz chunks of LTE spectrum in the 2.6GHz frequency band. It paid around BRL1.05 billion (US$500 million) for the spectrum. In total the country netted BRL2.72 billion from winnings bids from Vivo, America Movil’s Claro, TIM Brasil and Oi.

Although the largest operator, Vivo may not be first to market with Brazilian LTE services. Number four operator Oi last month outlined plans to achieve 50 percent coverage in seven Brazilian cities also by April 2013.
