Back from the Future: Piaggio rewinds the scooter Vespa 946

Back from the Future: Piaggio rewinds the  scooter Vespa 946.

Sixty-six years and 17 million vehicles after the Piaggio group decided to return to their origins to present an updated version of the first Vespa prototype presented in 1946.

The recently concluded Motorcycle Hall of Milan was the venue chosen by the Italian manufacturer for the world debut of this model, which combines the classic style of the iconic retro 'scooter' cutting with futuristic details.

In terms of structure, the first 946 incorporates a body made of steel and aluminum, which seeks to reduce the overall weight and thus optimize energy efficiency.

Also available is the new rear shock, which is now horizontal and not vertical, as it was in previous models. Moreover, the preload is adjustable in four positions, to adapt the response of the suspension to the different situations and improve the ride comfort.

Piaggio realizes that the 946 is known for its stability, which exceeds that of the great GTS, while its lightness and wide steering angle make it very agile, a quality he shares with the small LX. The seat is an important design element. With hinges placed on an aluminum support, leaves the air back. The upholstery is made from a fabric waterproof.

In terms of security, has disc brakes assisted by an antilock system. It also incorporates the innovative ASR traction control, which prevents the front wheel slip slightly adherent surfaces.

Techno(eco)logical milestones
Vespa Quarantasei (forty-six, the name refers to the year in which the first Vespa was manufactured) opens a window to the future in technology as well.

The beating heart of the Vespa Quarantasei is an extremely modern engine which unveils the development lines of motoring in the new future, characterised by low fuel consumption and decreased gas and sound emissions.

The single cylinder 125 cc 4 stroke, 3 valve, air cooled engine with electronic injection represents Piaggio Group's state of the art technology in scooter engines.

The new engine has been designed, developed and manufactured entirely in Pontedera, Piaggio's largest plant, which is one of the most advanced engine development and production centres in the world. This engine is born from the challenge that the Piaggio Group has taken on: to provide an increasingly more evolved customer with a product that guarantees performance, reliability and safety while also leading the field in respect for the environment.

An extremely modern engine.

The innovative 3 valve timing which characterises the Vespa Quarantasei engine allows optimisation of the load motion in the cylinder both in terms of tumble and swirl as well as optimal positioning of the spark plug, increasing combustion performance and at the same time guaranteeing optimum cooling of the parts inside the head.

For all of the bodies in motion bearings have been used in order to keep internal friction to a minimum: the timing rockers have a roller, all to the advantage of reducing noise and increasing mechanical efficiency, the camshaft is on bearings as well as the entire final drive.

The cooling system was carefully analysed, even through thermal fluid-dynamic simulations, in order to further improve performance, thereby obtaining significant reduction in terms of absorbed power and acoustics.

The injection system is state of the art for functionality and rideability, with automatic idle control and closed-loop titre management with a lambda probe. The three dimensional maps of advance, titre and injection timing are managed by a new generation control unit. Together with the trivalent catalytic converter, compliance with the Euro3 standard is more than guaranteed, even in anticipation of future standards which will be increasingly restrictive in terms of containment of polluting emissions.

RIM launched the BB Dev Alpha C for BB10 Qwerty devices.

From the BlackBerry Blog:

We like to think that we broke the mold of a developer relations program when we started our BlackBerry® 10 Dev Alpha testing device program last May at BlackBerry 10 Jam in Orlando. We’ve given out over 7,500 BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing devices to developers around the world at BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tours, BlackBerry 10 Enterprise Jams, and here at BlackBerry Jam Asia too.

As you know, there are BlackBerry 10 smartphones coming in Q1 2013 – an all-touch model similar to the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone with our industry-defining BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard.

Today we announced the next phase of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha program – the BlackBerry Dev Alpha C. It is a testing device for developers so that you can adjust, debug, and test your BlackBerry 10 applications to get ready for the launch of the BlackBerry 10 QWERTY device next year.

We’re only producing a limited number of these testing devices, and they will be reserved on a priority list for developers who have demonstrated that they are building apps for BlackBerry 10.

Distribution will be limited to developers who submit two or more applications; these developers will be given priority seeding for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C. These developers will be determined on the following point system:
  • 50 points for ported Android™ applications
  • 250 points for all other applications (Native, BlackBerry® WebWorks™, Adobe® AIR®)
  • 1500 points for Built For BlackBerry certified application
  • BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha A/B recipients start with 200 points
  • BlackBerry Elite Members start with 200 points
The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C offer will run from December 1, 2012 through February 5, 2013. The details on the program can be found here, and keep following @BlackBerryDev for more info.

Rumours: USA: T-Mobile to carry the iPhone 5.

According to Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig, “speculation is heightening,” that the German-owned carrier will announce a deal with Apple as soon as next week.

This notion comes just after T-Mobile USA’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jim Alling commented on the iPhone just last week, according to Information Week.

“Make no mistake about it: We would love to carry the iPhone. However, we want the economies to be right for us.”

T-Mobile has made some impressive strides to allure users to its iPhone-less network. The company has allowed unlocked iPhones to operate on its network and has even supplies SIM cards to fit iPhone devices.

Open webOS: November Edition.

Posted on 19:44 by Unknown

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Open webOS

From the Open webOS project Blog:

Open webOS: November Edition.
Warning this month’s post is pretty technical!

Back in September we announced a roadmap on what we would be working on next. The focus this month is on three significant SysMgr projects that will be completed in rapid sequence over the next month, plus one routine update.

Pluggable Keyboard Project

We have pulled the existing virtual keyboard logic out of “luna-sysmgr” into a new component “keyboard-efigs”.  This component supports either a tablet or phone-style virtual keyboard based on the familiar keyboard design for the HP Touchpad, supporting English, French, Italian, German and Spanish entry (hence “-efigs”)

This keyboard can be used as the basis for implementing different designs and locale support.  “luna-sysmgr” will be able to query multiple available keyboard modules and will select the best fit, based on the pixel dimensions of the display, the DPI and the locale.

This code change affected the following components and can be tested with the identified branches:

    luna-sysmgr      “unstable” branch
    luna-webkit-api “unstable” branch
    keyboard-efigs  “master” branch

We expect to complete our internal QA process by the end of November, and then we will roll over the “unstable” branches for “luna-webkit-api” and “luna-sysmgr” into the “master” branch, and switch the keyboard selection process over to this new method.

Qt 4.8.3 update

We are performing final testing on updating our Qt4.8.2 support to the latest upstream version of 4.8.3 and expect to post that before the end of November.

WebAppManager Separation Project

The existing “luna-sysmgr” component has two separate processes combined into one codebase, LunaSysMgr and WebAppMgr.  When LunaSysMgr loads, it currently immediately forks a copy of itself as WebAppMgr, and the two processes do different but complementary tasks, where WebAppMgr is responsible for running JavaScript applications and LunaSysMgr runs the rest of the system.  There are weird historical reasons for this and it greatly complicates the maintenance and enhancement of SysMgr components.

We have already completed the first phase of breaking out the WebAppManager codebase into the new component “webappmanager” and are now pruning the resulting obsolete code from “luna-sysmgr”.  This will still leave these two components with a significant set of common code, which we will progressively extract into a new shared library component “luna-sysmgr-common”.

Once the “unstable” branch of “luna-sysmgr” is released from the Pluggable Keyboard project, we will immediately reuse that branch for these changes and ensure their visibility and of the ongoing development of the new “luna-sysmgr-common” component.

This code change will affect the following components and will become testable with the identified branches:

    luna-sysmgr      “unstable” branch
    luna-sysmgr-common “master” branch
    webappmanager  “master” branch

We expect to complete our internal QA process in early December and then we will roll over the “unstable” branch for “luna-sysmgr” into the “master” branch, and have a substantially reduced codebase for “luna-sysmgr” focused on the traditional responsibilities of the LunaSysMgr process.

Qt5/WebKit2 Upgrade for SysMgr Components Project

Early in December we will begin the complex process of updating the following SysMgr components from Qt4.8/WebKit1 to be based on Qt5/WebKit2 and we expect to complete the process by the end of that month:   “luna-sysmgr”, “luna-sysmgr-common”, “keyboard-efigs”, “smartkey-hun” and “webappmanager”.

We expect the bulk of the effort will be related to supporting Qt5 in the build system, updating the QPAs to work with Qt5, and of modifying “luna-sysmgr” and “webappmanager” to convert deprecated Qt4.8 capabilities to their Qt5 equivalents.

Once the WebAppManager Separation Project has reached a stable point early in December, and the “unstable” branch of “luna-sysmgr” has again been rolled up into the “master” branch, you will begin seeing the Qt5 conversion work appearing in the “unstable” branches of these five components.

Interested in contributing?

Join us in the forums, mailinglist or IRC to discuss these topics and many more. Of course you can also join the engineering team and get paid to work on your favorite open source project. Head on over to ourjobs page and browse through the great opportunities available.

Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) and intelligent data expertise: In-vehicle connected services open the opportunity for a new level of continuous relationships between automakers and their customers. Sprint brings auto manufacturers the benefit of its own extensive relationship experience with smartphone and tablet users. Sprint Velocity makes that experience available by helping automakers use intelligent data to better understand and adapt to customer preferences for communications, develop and market products, support lifecycle management and manage a consumer subscription model.

Personalization of the user experience: Sprint’s technology, applications and customer relationship capabilities combine into an end-to-end, customized approach that allows automakers to create a distinct in-vehicle communications experience for each brand, each model or even each driver. As a result, Sprint Velocity helps automakers further humanize the driving and riding experience by making it easier for vehicle operators to stay focused and by providing passengers with infotainment options that are seamless with their experience at home, at work or while taking a walk.

“True to its name, Sprint Velocity is all about speed and direction,” said Mike Bray, vice president and general manager-Connected Vehicle Program, Sprint. “This solution allows an auto manufacturer to efficiently accelerate mobile integration and manage costs while better understanding how customers relate to its brands and models and directing the in-vehicle experience to meet those preferences. As a result, auto companies can better configure connected services to match the individual personality of each brand, each vehicle or even each driver.”

As the inaugural customer for Sprint Velocity, Chrysler Group has joined in a strategic partnership with Sprint designed to seamlessly integrate wireless technology into Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Access in-vehicle communication system. Uconnect Access is initially available in the redesigned 2013 Ram 1500 and all-new SRT Viper supercar. View this video to learn more about the relationship between Sprint and Chrysler.

“Key factors in our decision to choose Sprint,” said Marios Zenios, head of Uconnect Systems and Services, Chrysler Group LLC, “included Sprint’s best-in-class end-to-end telematics platform, secure and reliable network, unparalleled relationships within the telematics and broad M2M ecosystem, and nimble consumer market experience, including a deep understanding of how customers experience and interact with wireless-based applications, both in and out of the vehicle.”

Why the Nokia Lumia 920 has a better camera picture resolution than the iPhone5. Watch the Video.

Microsoft says:

Watch what happens when Sarah and Yasir are given the Meet Your Match challenge by Ben the PC Guy.

What happens when the iPhone 5 is put up against the Nokia Lumia 920 for a low-light photo shootout? See which phone Sarah decides is the better match for her.

Meet yours: http://newwp.it/PaLMds

Windows Phone has an easy-to-use, dedicated camera button that lets you take pictures on the spot, even when your phone is locked. Plus, no phone posts pictures faster to Facebook, so you can share in seconds without having to jump from your camera to an app.

And because every Windows Phone comes with SkyDrive built in, you don't have to worry about losing photos if you lose your phone. Your pictures and videos are stored automatically in the cloud—no syncing, no cables, no worries.

Samsung Galaxy Note 24G LTE Expansion Means Improved Mobile Experience for Customers

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II available tomorrow Nov 29.

Just in time for the holidays, the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be available for purchase online and in stores starting tomorrow, Nov. 29. Customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note II will receive an e-mail alert when their device has been shipped. Customers have the option of two color models, Marble White or Titanium Grey and can pick up the Samsung Galaxy Note II for $299.99 with a new two-year customer agreement.
Beginning today, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is available for pre-order. The Galaxy Note II combines the features of a smartphone and tablet, giving users the best of both worlds with its large yet pocketable 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen.
The built-in S-Pen does more than just draw pictures. A student looking to take notes in class can use the handwriting-to-text feature to jot down their notes and attach an audio recording of the lecture. With AirView, the S-Pen can hover over an e-mail or gallery to preview content without opening it. Easy Clip lets users draw an outline and crop what’s on the screen with the S-Pen and share that cropped image with others.
The Note II allows users to run two apps simultaneously by dividing the screen in the Multi Window view. Users can stream YouTube videos while texting a friend, taking notes or writing down an address while on a phone call. Pulling out the S-Pen during a phone call will bring up the Popup Note feature to quickly write and save notes instead of looking for a pen and paper.
Productivity tools like the Polaris Office app make it possible for professionals to create and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Keeping those documents secure is important, and that’s where enterprise mobility solutions come in. As a SAFE (Samsung For Enterprise) device, users receive security features like on device encryption, advanced Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync functionality and support for industry-leading Mobile Device Management (MDM) and VPN solutions to protect the data and communications handled by the device.
Additional features:
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • Samsung Exynos 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM
  • 8-megapixel camera and 1.9-megapixel front facing-camera
  • AllShare Play – stream multimedia content from the Note II to a compatible Samsung Smart TV® or home audio system when connected to the same Wi-Fi network
  • S Beam – share pictures, videos, documents and more by simply touching two Note II devices' backs together
The Samsung Galaxy Note II will be available online and in stores in Marble White or Titanium Grey in the coming weeks for $299.99 with a new two-year customer agreement.

According to Chinatechnews Suning  stores a China company who started to work with Microsoft in 2007 and was its channel in the debut of Windows 7, recieved the visit of Jean-Philippe Courtois, Microsoft's global executive vice president and Microsoft worldwide president, in Suning`s new headquarters in Nanjing and implemented comprehensive talks with Zhang Jindong, chairman of the Chinese consumer electronic retail chain.

The two companies reached an agreement on their comprehensive cooperation over the next few years, and they expressed cooperation intent in various sectors, including e-commerce, product sales, and marketing.

Based on the agreement, Microsoft's new smartphone, which will be launched in 2013 (before rumors said mid 2013), will be first sold via the retail channels of Suning.

Microsoft said that it will consider Suning as its prior sales channels for these two new products.

In other rumors Foxconn has already secured a manufacturing deal with Microsoft for the Surface phone,
